Tool and Die Maker Job Description
Our company is looking for a Tool and Die Maker to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform geometric shop calculations;
- Set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders, EDM equipment and various hand tools;
- Responsible to track, order, and organize tooling;
- Rework tooling details and performs skilled fitting, timing and adjusting as needed to develop piece parts to blue print specification;
- Assist the production department to get automation machines up and;
- Performs other related duties as assigned;
- Hands on participation in the operation and setting up of stamping presses;
- Lead and supervise Tool & Die and R&D component construction according to instruction and engineering drawings;
- Use tool conditioning and debug skills to solve progressive die;
- Operate all gauging and inspection equipment to perform 1st piece part inspections before submitting to QC submittal;
- Diagnoses root cause and correct problems in complicated progressive;
- Advise which correct materials and oils to be used for specific;
- Responsible for relevant entries in ERP system.
Requirements:
- Professional Technical Training in Tool Making & Die Repair or equivalent experience;
- Safety oriented, knowledge of MIOSHA standards is desired;
- Sheet Metal and class A surface experience preferred;
- Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction;
- Ability to read blueprints;
- Able to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instruction, procedures and guidelines;
- Work to close tolerances as close as 0.0005 inch;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Must have basic computer skills;
- Able to effectively operate safely in a high pressure work environment;
- Ability to read, write and speak English;
- Progressive die troubleshooting and carbide grinding skills;
- Able to plan, construct, alter and repair a wide variety of details, tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances;
- Able to learn how to accurately estimate time of major repairs;
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to exchange information clearly and concisely with coworkers, supervisors.
